The former GENESIS guitar player during the most interesting period of the band (From "Nursery Cryme" in 1971 to the double-live "Seconds Out" in 1977) created in his solo albums his own style, dominated by his guitars, sometimes very classical or at times furious. His delicate and peaceful acoustic approach enables him to express himself and develop the rare beauty of his refined compositions that his exceptional fingering amplifies. His tracks go from a symphonic Progressive style to a more energetic rock. On "Genesis Revisited" Steve HACKETT plays cover-versions of GENESIS classics with different rock musicians (Keyboards, saxophone, choruses, flute, drums, bass played by Al JOHNSON or John WETTON) and a symphonic orchestra. The other albums show most of the time soft melodies by Steve HACKETT, magnified by either his acoustic or his electric guitar. From the first album "Voyage Of The Acolyte" while he was still with GENESIS to his most recent ones, all are musts. The double-album "The Tokyo Tapes" (With John WETTON, Chester THOMPSON, Ian McDONALD & Julian COLBECK) is a live recording of a rare beauty and includes, apart from Steve HACKETT's own compositions, GENESIS, KING CRIMSON and U.K. songs. Not to be missed ! "Live In Tokyo" is a PAL video. Twenty-four years after "Voyage Of The Acolyte" and three years after "Genesis Revisited", ex-GENESIS guitarist Steve HACKETT comes back to his so-personnal idea of Progressive music with this new opus. There's an amount of the guitarist's typical songs, as for more rock-oriented works. Accompanied by Ian McDONALD, he gives to our extasied ears a superb "In Memoriam", a sort of beautiful and modern "In The Court Of The Crimson King" ! The DVD "The Tokyo Tapes" was recorded in Japan in 1996 with John WETTON, Chester THOMPSON & Ian McDONALD. It is a beautiful concert with a track list that that includes apart from his own compositions, some GENESIS, a touch of KING CRIMSON, a feel of U.K.. As an exclusive bonus, we can also discover more than fifteen minutes of the rehearsals previous to the concert in Great-Britain, with the complete team !!! The 2010 offering, "Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth", appears to be an excellent one. It also marks the beginning of a new life for the artist, now divorced and separated from his label Camino Records. Here are eight long titiles, including two instrumentals, worth listening to ! One could notice the guest-appearance of one Chris SQUIRE (YES) one one track, the prequel to a future collaborative album by the two British legends. Even the discreet Anthony PHILLIPS, Steve HACKETT's predecessor in GENESIS, brings some chords on this masterpiece. Not to be missed by any means !
