Bass player in SOFT MACHINE at the beginning of his career, Kevin AYERS quickly decided to become a solo artist. "Joy Of A Toy" (With Mike RATLEDGE) and "Shooting At The Moon" (With Mike OLDFIELD and Lol COXHILL) showcases a music between rock and Progressive rock, with refined songs in the style of those of SOFT MACHINE. The following albums have quiet songs, sung with a deep and velvety voice, and include musicians such as Steve HILLAGE on "Bananamour", or his former SOFT MACHINE colleagues Robert WYATT and Mike RATLEDGE... Fourteenth solo album, "Still Life With Guitar" (1992) shows a comeback to found again inspiration. Impressed by FAIRGROUND ATTRACTION works, Kevin AYERS decided to contact them in order to make an album with them, something carried out swiftly... Other famous musicians also collaborated, such as guitarist Ollie HALSALL (Friend of years and also member of PATTO) and keyboardist Anthony MORE (SLAPP HAPPY). Another proof of quality, Mike OLDFIELD himself plays the guitar. This album shows an acoustic and intimate music between folk-rock and sophisticated songs, with the unique and nonchalant voice of an eternal dandy. Here is a great work that will please Mark KNOPFLER or FAIRPORT CONVENTION fans...
