The band of singer, guitarist, keyboardist Peter HAMMILL became a reference in the history of Progressive rock. VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR was formed in London in 1967 with a curious name taken from an invention of a scientific of the M.I.T. that bears this name. The music played by this quartet (Hugh BANTON (Keyboards), Guy EVANS (Drums) and David JACKSON (Saxophone & flute) creates heavy and sometimes dark atmospheres. A never-ending tension is also re-enforced by this so peculiar dark singing. "The Aerosol Grey Machine" is the first album by VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR issued in 1968. It was followed by "The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other" in 1970. That same year was issued the enigmatic "H To He, Who Am The Only One". "Pawn Hearts" is a masterpiece of this band: recorded in 1971, Robert FRIPP participated to it. After a break up of about four years, "Godbluff" was issued in 1975, soon followed by "Still Life" and "World Record" in 1976. "Time Vaults" is a collection of previously unreleased tracks from the Seventies. A cult band, VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR has always had a kind of mystery surrounding it. This British line-up led by Peter HAMMILL existed in the Seventies and was like Progressive rock's shooting star, and just left as a tangible sign of its ever existing some absolutely fascinating albums. However, some people swore that in their youth, they had witnessed memorable stage performances, but as they could show no proof of it, they weren't quite believed. Thirty years later, the truth has emerged ! This could become reality thanks to the excellent Classic Rock Productions, and even more thanks to the DVD "Masters From The Vaults" ! It shows us an exclusive and previously unreleased show that VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR filmed for the Belgian television in 1971. Among others, we can mention a remarkable and transcended performance of the epic suite "A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers". A truly unique object !
