Is it necessary to go over DEEP PURPLE's brilliant career again ? Well, for our alien friends, here is still a quick look at it... with a beginning influenced by a barely starting psychedelic progressive rock, singer Rod EVANS and bass player Nick SIMPER's band had their first success in the late Sixties, thanks to the hit "Hush" among others. Then came the time of the so-called classic line up with characters such as Ian GILLAN (Vocals), Ian PAICE (Drums), Jon LORD (Keyboards), Roger GLOVER (Bass) and Ritchie BLACKMORE (Guitar). The last mentioned quickly became known as one of the most extraordinary musicians of his generation, venerated by a cohort of guitar fans. Energetic hard-rock, a musical style that the band greatly contributed to develop, if not to invent, has however never forgotten to leave some space to varying Hammond organ parts. As its name indicates, their famous live album "Concerto For Group And Orchestra" (1970), was the first meeting between a classic orchestra and an electric line-up. "In Rock" (1970) and "Machine Head" (1972) are two major landmarks in their discography, as are the mythic "Smoke On The Water", probably the most famous guitar riff in the whole of the rock history! The DVD "Masters From The Vaults" (1969-1972) shows us some rare footages of the time recorded in various occasions. There we can watch "Speed King", "Child In Time" or "Hallelujah", among others, as well as four bonus tracks taken from a concert of Ian GILLAN alone (1990). A unique document with a true value ! After this, the legend DEEP PURPLE has evolved according to the line-up changes and the passing of time, and today still, goes on thanks to American guitarist Steve MORSE (THE DIXIE DREGS, KANSAS...) Not to be missed !
