HIMALIA is the name of a nymph of Rhodes, who became mother of three sons of Zeus, when the latter came to the island to vanquish the Titans. This is also the name of the tenth moon of Jupiter (Zeus), the brightest one. The band HIMALIA, based in Burgundy (France), was created in 2003 by Xavier BESNARD (Drums & keyboards) and François CANARD (Saxophone). The duet was joined by Bruno PAGGI (Guitars) and Grégory TEISSIER (Bass), and recorded a CD called "Départ Immédiat", only sold on concerts. Xavier BESNARD, who is the composer of the group, wanted to focus on drums, and let his seat to pianist Serge DAHAN in autumn 2004. In the meantime, Grégory TEISSIER had to go his own way, and was replaced by Valery BOULANGER on bass. That solid group recorded the second album in the summer of 2005, eventually published a year later on the Great Winds label. The listener will be able to hear a synthesis, a fusion of the jazz-rock experiences from the early Seventies in Europe and in the United States, those experiences that fed the musicians of HIMALIA: SOFT MACHINE, WEATHER REPORT, GONG, Michael BRECKER, etc. Needless to say more, just let yourself be driven !

HIMALIA est le nom donné à une nymphe de Rhodes, qui eut trois fils de Zeus, venu dans l'île pour battre les Titans. Il s'agit également du patronyme de la dixième lune de Jupiter (Zeus), la plus brillante. Le groupe HIMALIA, basé dans l'Yonne, a été créé en 2003 par Xavier BESNARD (Batterie & claviers) et François CANARD (Saxophone). Entourés de Bruno PAGGI (Guitares) et de Grégory TEISSIER (Basse), nos deux compères enregistrent un premier CD, "Départ Immédiat", vendu seulement lors des concerts. À l'automne 2004, Xavier BESNARD, qui compose tous les titres, souhaite se consacrer à la batterie, et fait donc appel au pianiste Serge DAHAN au piano. Dans le même temps, Grégory TEISSIER part vivre d'autres aventures musicales: il est remplacé par Valéry BOULANGER. C'est une formation soudée qui enregistre le deuxième album à l'été 2005, publié l'année suivante sur le label Great Winds. L'auditeur pourra y entendre une synthèse, une fusion des expériences jazz-rock menées en Europe et aux États-Unis depuis le début des Seventies, ces expériences dont les musiciens de HIMALIA se sont nourris: SOFT MACHINE, WEATHER REPORT, GONG, Michael BRECKER, etc. Inutile d'en dire plus, il ne vous reste plus qu'à vous laisser entraîner !
