Peter GABRIEL (Royaume-Uni)
Live In Athens 1987

Peter GABRIEL is an essential singer of the second half of the twentieth century. Without losing any of his talent and charisma, without compromising anything, he could admirably gather the opposite in music. This makes him one of the most appreciated and respected artists today. Fans of different music styles could appreciate his variable vocal qualities and his acting talent with GENESIS' Progressive rock style. Actually, this band has remained closely associated with him, despite the world success they've obtained with Phil COLLINS, more than twenty-five years after he left them at their peak (During the "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" tour, he announced to both fans and amazed colleagues that he was leaving the band immediately.). Quite impressive ! However, he didn't stop there and created a very personal, different pop-rock, out of phase with the trends. He didn't hesitate to work with guitarist Robert FRIPP (KING CRIMSON) on his solo albums. He also revealed a young bass player with a strange instrument: the Chapman Stick (Tony LEVIN, future member of... KING CRIMSON !). For his own albums, he chose to be concise: after "I" (1977), "II" (1978), "III" (1980) & "IV" (1982), he issued "So" (1986), "Us" (1992) and "Up" (2002). A hit like "Sledgehammer" (1986) went around the world and is still played on the radio today. Never at a loss for ideas, he's instigated the recognition of World Music during the Eighties, a musical style whose present success owes a lot to his label RealWorld. And if his public appearances are each time fewer, they still create considerable expectations. The first five albums are now available in Japanese Digipack, including the double album "Plays Live". A contemporary of Peter HAMMILL, with whom he shares quite a few tastes and a solid friendship, Peter GABRIEL has been influencing a lot of singers, including FISH (MARILLION).
