Jean-Luc PONTY (France) Live

Originally a free-jazz man, French violinist Jean-Luc PONTY slowly made himself known in the United States at the beginning of the Seventies, notably playing alongside John McLAUGHLIN in THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA (And also recording with Elton JOHN on "Honky Chateau"). Since then, his reputation as a virtuoso musician, an imaginative creator and an unrivalled experimenter (a genius on the electric violin, a pioneer in the use of computers in music...) has brought recognition by a larger audience. After his fusion period ("Imaginary Voyage" & "Cosmic Messenger", respectively from 1976 and 1978, are warmly recommended), Jean-Luc PONTY has been leaning more towards current-day jazz-rock.

Nanti d'un solide passé de jazzman free, le violoniste français Jean-Luc PONTY s'est fait reconnaître tardivement aux Etats-Unis au début des Seventies, en participant notamment au THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA de John McLAUGHLIN (Après avoir enregistré avec Elton JOHN sur "Honky Chateau"). Dès lors, sa réputation de musicien virtuose, de créateur imaginatif et d'expérimentateur hors-pair (Un génie du violon électrique, précurseur dans l'utilisation de l'informatique en musique...) le fit connaître et apprécier du plus grand nombre. Après sa période fusion ("Imaginary Voyage" & "Cosmic Messenger", enregistrés respectivement en 1978, sont tout particulièrement recommandés...), Jean-Luc PONTY se dirigea vers un jazz-rock plus dans l'air du temps...
