DIRE STRAITS (Royaume-Uni) On Every Street

Guitarist-singer Mark KNOPFLER's group DIRE STRAITS took its name from the poverty they found themselves in at the end of the Seventies. However, that situation didn't last too long, as the bluesy "Sultans Of Swing" was an international hit in 1979. After that, the musician's ascension of the charts didn't let up until 1985's "Brothers In Arms", which had a whole string of successes such as "Money For Nothing" and "So Far Away". After that album, the group broke up, not to be reformed until 1991, when they recorded the excellent "On Every Street".

DIRE STRAITS doit son nom à la "dèche" dans laquelle la formation du guitariste-chanteur Mark KNOPFLER se trouvait à la fin des annnées soixante-dix. Cependant, la situation va bientôt lui être très favorable: le blues-rock de "Sultans Of Swing" va devenir un tube international en 1979. Dès lors, l'ascension vers les sommets des charts ne cessera qu'avec "Brothers In Arms" en 1985, et sa pléiade de succès tels "Money For Nothing" ou "So Far Away". La séparation consécutive à l'album ne sera réparée que le temps d'un excellent "On Every Street" en 1991...
