WIGWAM (Finlande) Some Several Moons

WIGWAM is no doubt about it a unique case in the history of Finnish progressive rock, because they managed to sign with a major (Virgin) during their active period in the Seventies. And this is obviously not a coincidence that their leader, bass-player Pekka POHJOLA recorded, during the same period, with the man that was the first one signed by Richard BRANSON's label: Mike OLDFIELD ! The music of this unique band is dominated by the piano and organ sounds, all of those wrapped up in a sometimes dark music filled with typical Scandinavian influences. Their discography started in 1969 with "Hard n' Horny" and the following year with "Tombstone Valentine". "Fairyport" is from 1971, their eponymous album as well as "Wicked Ivory" from 1972. "Being" from 1973, "Pigworm" and "Live Music From the Twilight Zone" from 1974. "Nuclear Nightclub" from 1975, "Lucky Golden Stripes and Starpose" from 1976 and finally, "Dark Album" from 1977.

WIGWAM constitue très certainement un cas unique dans l'histoire du rock Progressif finnois, pour avoir été signé sur une major (Virgin) durant sa période d'activité durant les années soixante-dix. Et ce n'est certainement pas un hasard si son leader, le bassiste Pekka POHJOLA a enregistré à cette époque avec l'homme qui fit démarrer le label cher à Richard BRANSON, Mike OLDFIELD ! La musique de cette formation à nulle autre pareille est dominée par les sons du piano et de l'orgue, le tout enrobé dans une musique parfois sombre, auréolée d'influences scandinaves typiques... Sa discographie débute en 1969 avec "Hard N' Horny", et se poursuit l'année suivante avec "Tombstone Valentine". "Fairyport" date de 1971, l'album éponyme & "Wicked Ivory" de 1972, "Being" de 1973, "Pigworm" & "Live Music From The Twilight Zone" de 1974, "Nuclear Nightclub" de 1975, "Lucky Golden Stripes And Starpose" de 1976 et "Dark Album" de 1977. On y retrouve également le guitariste Jukka GUSTAVSON.
