THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA (USA)
The Inner Mounting Flame

THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA is a legendary jazz-rock fusion band, whose line-up was that of a dream-team! Their "Spiritual Guide" is an English guitarist John McLAUGHLIN, an absolute virtuoso of his instrument and who has a wild imagination and an always controlled craziness. Coming from Miles DAVIS, he helped create this particular genre, at the crossroads of jazz, rock and Indian musics (Following in this Carlos SANTANA, with whom he recorded "Love Devotion Surrender" in 1972, he is an adept of guru Sri CHIMNOY), as well as Progressive rock with the double album "Bitches Brew". Defined as the greatest drummer in the world, the US citizen from Panama Billy COBHAM (DREAMS) is then added next to his fellow citizen and violinist Jerry GOODMAN, as well as to the Czech keyboardist Jan HAMMER (future composer of the soundtrack for TV series "Miami Vice") and the great Irish bassist Rick LAIRD. "The Inner Mounting Flame" is the first integrant of an extremely experimental and original discography that shows a violence and darkness that were rarely seen anywhere else. This discography started in 1971 and the next year was issued the masterpiece "Birds of Fire". "Between Nothingness and Eternity", and "Apocalypse" were both recorded in 1974 while "Visions of the Emerald Beyond" in 1975 saw the very active collaboration of French violinist Jean-Luc PONTY.
