AELIAN performs a truly interesting music between Progressive rock, AOR and neo Progressive. Its first album "The Watcher" (1992) went more specifically in the first of those three directions, with a particular liking for the Seventies YES. Eight years later, "A Tree Under The Colours" showed a slightly different style. The opening track of the album "The Flame Of Love" is a good example and proves immediately to be a potential hit. A little like the famous "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" on "90125" (1983). The comparison is not made by chance. If Jon ANDERSON's line-up is always an obvious influence, the Eighties are here clearly privileged. In other words, those five Italian musicians play now powerful compositions with catchy chorus and perfectly fitting guitar riffs. Nevertheless, the sophistication is not forgotten and always serves the compositions. Trevor RABIN and ASIA also seem to have inspired this band, that tries to find the same perfection in their production and sound. As for Marc AIXER's vocals, sung in perfect English, they perfectly embody the ambition of this masterpiece. Despite its apparent simplicity, this album is never boring and hides some true imaginative treasures...

AELIAN produit une musique des plus intéressantes, à la croisée des chemins entre rock Progressif, rock-FM et neo Progressif. Le premier album "The Watcher" (1992) s'orientait plus spécifiquement dans la première direction, avec une affection particulière pour le YES estampillé Seventies. Huit ans plus tard, "A Tree Under The Colours" inaugure une orientation légèrement différente. Ouvrant l'album, "The Flame Of Love" donne le ton, en se révélant immédiatement comme un tube potentiel. Un peu à la manière du fameux "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" sur "90125" (1983). La comparaison n'est pas fortuite: si la formation de Jon ANDERSON est toujours mise à l'honneur, ce sont clairement les Eighties qui sont ici privilégiées. Autrement dit, nos cinq musiciens italiens jouent à présent des compositions puissantes, aux refrains accrocheurs et aux riffs de guitare parfaitement calibrés. La sophistication n'est pas oubliée pour autant, toujours mise au service des compositions. Trevor RABIN et ASIA semblent avoir également inspiré le groupe, qui s'attache à retrouver la même perfection dans le rendu sonore et la production. Quant au chant de Marc AIXER, s'exprimant dans un Anglais impeccable, il rend parfaitement justice à l'ambition de ce petit chef-d'oeuvre. Voici un disque jamais rebutant malgré son apparente simplicité, recelant des trésors d'imagination...
