THE DOORS (USA) Strange Days (Japanese Papersleeve)

Much more than just a band, THE DOORS was a true phenomenon. This was mainly due to the truly charismatic character of their singer Jim MORRISON, whose death led to the band splitting up in 1971. The music performed by this California based band could be situated at the confluence of pop, rock, psychedelic and shaman-like rituals. Contrary to their competition JEFFERSON AIRPLANE and QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE, the emphasis was not set on long hypnotic sequences, but more on poetic and visionary lyrics that went from suggestive murmur to the wildest yell. The eponymous DVD allows us to see three documents of the times: "The End" recorded for the Canadian TV in 1967, an interesting set from Denmark the following year during the band's only European tour, and a complete show produced in New York during the year 1969. The three survivors Ray MANZAREK (Keyboards), Robby KRIEGER (Guitar) and John DENSMORE (Drums) also give us their point of view, thirty-five years later. The DVD also includes an interview of the musicians, still struck by the famous Miami attack... You do not know what we are talking about ? Then, buy this unique DVD without delay !...

Bien plus qu'un simple groupe, THE DOORS fut un véritable phénomène de société. Cela est principalement dû à la personnalité ô combien charismatique du chanteur Jim MORRISON, dont le décès entraînera la dissolution du groupe en 1971. La musique de la formation californienne peut être située à la confluence de la pop, du rock, du psychédélisme et des rites chamaniques. Contrairement à ses concurrents JEFFERSON AIRPLANE ou QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE, l'emphase n'est pas mise sur des séquences hypnotiques interminables, mais plutôt sur des textes poétiques et visionnaires, passant sans retenue du chuchotement langoureux au cri le plus sauvage. Le DVD éponyme nous permet de visionner trois documents d'époque: "The End" enregistré pour la télévision canadienne en 1967, un intéressant set capturé au Danemark l'année suivante lors de l'unique tournée européenne du groupe, et une émission complète produite à New York lors de l'année 1969. Les trois survivants que sont Ray MANZAREK (Claviers), Robby KRIEGER (Guitare) et John DENSMORE (Batterie) nous apportent leur éclairage, avec un recul de trente-cinq ans.
