Gordon GILTRAP is a famous folk-rock guitarist who flirted more than a little with Progressive rock during the late Seventies. He made himself known with "Heartsong", a piece taken from his album "Perilous Journey", when it was used as the theme to a well-known TV program in England. A friend of Steve HOWE, he shares more than a few things in common with his alter ego in YES, such as his taste for technical and stylistic perfection, and a style seasoned with folk and Celtic influences, which one might describe as typically English. Gordon GILTRAP's guitar playing could be compared to Anthony PHILLIPS, Pete TOWNSEND, Bert JANSCH or John RENBOURN. His collaborators include drummers Simon PHILLIPS, Clive BUNKER and Ian MOSLEY, as well as bassist John G. PERRY, violinist Ric SANDERS and keyboardist Rod EDWARDS. We should also mention that almost all of his discography is instrumental... The self-titled album started it all in 1968. It, along with "Portrait" from the following year and "Accolade" (1970), were entirely instrumental. In 1971, "A Testament of Time" included his first compositions with vocals. "Giltrap" dates from 1973. "Visionary", from 1976, is the first part of a trilogy that will be indispensible to any self-respecting Progressive rock fan, the other two parts are "Perilous Journey", released twelve months later, and the symphonic "Fear Of The Dark" from 1978. "Live At Oxford" was recorded in 1979 at the Oxford Polytechnic. "Total Guitar" includes a book and a CD in one package. Captured during a live performance given at Sheffield in 1991, "The Solo Album" revisits nineteen of the masters compositions, rescored for solo acoustic guitar. "On A Summer's Night" is a recording from the Warwick Folk Festival held in August of that same year. Originally released in 1995, "Music For The Small Screen" collects a number of themes for television programs that Gordon GILTRAP has produced during his prolific career.
